I also went out and took a photograph of a brick wall, a likely place for someone to spray paint graffiti. I then used the wall as a backgroudn layer on Photoshop to apply the ‘S’ which I blended into the image using a number of techniques such as changing the opacity of the image down and then using a stencil of that over the wall layer and darkening that to bring the ‘S’ back to black yet with the markings on the wall underneath to make it appear more like it had been painted directly onto the wall.
When I hid the layer containing the scan of Action Comic all that remained was the paper texture along with the ‘S’ and I think this looks really good it’s simple and bold.
The problem with the last poster was it had too much on the page, it made it harder to focus on just the main point which was the new ‘S’ shield yet with this design you get exactly the opposite there’s only one thing to focus on and the texture helps to make sure the background isn’t just plain and boring.
I had an idea of several images which would be a lead up to a release of the comic much like how Resident Evil 6 had a viral campaign involving a viral video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p3HsO0hZuUY
As well as a blog that collected information leading up to the official announcement of the game: http://www.nohopeleft.com/
A large part of which is the appearance of a symbol which had been found in various locations across the globe.
This is one of the best advertising campaigns I’ve seen in a while mostly because people actually believed it not everyone granted, to some it was more obvious. But what I took from this was the lead up to a release using a symbol in places obviously I have a logo but that would be giving it away immediatly so I used the ‘S’ shield I designed and decided to make it look like it had been spraypainted over the original Action Comics along with a date November 2012 but I’m really pleased with how this came out with the scan of Action Comics (a reprint naturally) in the background the image had too much going on to work properly considering the design.
These are the two variations of the Compassion image for my posters with the light handshake under and over the text. I am currently not sure which one to use for my final work, which do you think works best?
Definitely the first the second covers up parts of the lettering and while it doesn’t cover up the word or cause a problem to read, it also doesn’t make it any better so it’s not really needed.

Minimalist posters for the comic, I’m quite the fan of black and white so I also tried that out but the ‘S’ crest is black against red on the actual costume so it seems more appropriate.
I used a city silhouette at the bottom because it works well with the minimalistic style and it also is good perspective of how big metaphorically Superman is in comparison to everyone else he has the power to pretty much destroy the world but he chooses to be good. I added the Globe atop the Daily Planet to help identify the city as Metropolis as well.
The pencils and inks of the final page of the comic I figured seen as I’m only doing sample spreads I should treat it as a preview to the comic so I had an introduction then story based around clark leading up to a costume change in a lift and finishing with him flying away from the Daily Planet, it shows good examples of the artwork from different perspectives without giving all the action away, and leaves the readers on a slight cliffhanger.
This is how a logo on my backboard could have worked smaller and in the corner, however the difference with mine is that the backboard isn’t promoting the work on it it’s more to show how old the work that came before it was and the difference in quality among other things so including the logo would have drawn attention towards it like it was a part of the show.

Another image like my backboard that has the Star Trek logo towards the bottom, which is really clever.
I could have included my logo into the design but it would of had to be at a smaller scale.

That’s really good, kind of like what I did for my backboard, but taking it a step further with the ‘S’ crest This wouldn’t have worked as well for mine because most of the crest would be covered by my final work.
I also faded mine out with a scrunched up paper feel to it to make it look older.
